Most collectors are well aware that Tiger Woods used the same red dot Scotty Cameron Newport putter for 13 of his 14 Major Championship victories. It seems unfathomable that Tiger contemplated swapping out his red dot Newport in the middle of what would become the Tiger Slam - but that's exactly what almost happened. At the 2000 PGA Championship, Scotty Cameron delivered to Tiger this JAT00 prototype putter. We do not know what Tiger thought about this putter, or whether he actually tested it. But we do know what Tiger did do - he stuck with the red dot Newport and holed a key putt on the 72nd hole and then again in the playoff to fend off Bob May and win the 2000 PGA Championship. The rest, they say, is history, as Tiger won the next two Major Championships as well to complete the Tiger Slam.
This putter then ended up with former pro golfer Ed Sabo, who was the first golfer Tiger's former caddie Fluff ever worked for. It has been in our consignor's personal Scotty Cameron collection ever since.
The accompanying certificate from Scotty Cameron dates to 2005 and describes this putter as a "Studio Design Tour Prototype." "1 of of a kind w/ catamaran sole & T.W." The Scotty Cameron letter also states that the putter was "originally made for Tiger Woods."
