Offered here is a set of 3 original circa 1920s George Nicols irons that were made expressly for Gene Sarazen while he was Head Pro at Fresh Meadow Golf Club in Flushing, LI. Sarazen was hired as the Pro at Fresh Meadow, but left the position shortly after he was defeated in the 1930 PGA Championship at his home club. The 1932 US Open was coming to Fresh Meadow, and Sarazen did not want to take his chances; everyone talked about the curse that said a Pro could never win a Major tournament at his home club. Perhaps he was right, as he came back to Fresh Meadow as a visitor for the 1932 US Open and won his first US Open in 10 years.
Included are 3 of Gene Sarazens clubs that are in excellent condition - a 1 iron, 6 iron (mashie), and 9 iron (niblick).
