Until ballmaking technology improved in the early 1900s, paint did not adhere to a golf ball's surface very well. As outlined on this original can of Halley's Golf Ball Enamel Paint, the best method of repainting was messy; it required the golfer to place a small amount of the enamel paint in a cupped hand and then roll the ball between the palms.

Offered here is a rare late 1800s to early 1900s can of Halley's Golf Ball Enamel Paint. Can is 2 3/8" tall and still filled with paint!
